CLIMBING TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1: PUNO - CHACHANI BASE CAMP (5200M)

Today we offer two alternatives for the transfer from Puno to Chachani Mount.
GROUP SERVICE: At 6AM includes pick-up from your hotel in Puno and transfer to the bus stop and then around 4 hours of bus journey on the Altiplano of Puno and Arequipa until the meeting point as known as Pampas Cañahuas (4200M) - This service don't includes any stop during the transfer - At this point there is policy station where all transports stop for usual control/check - There another driver and the mountain guide will be waiting for you to continue the guided trip to Chachani Mount driving on dirt road up to 5000M and from there 3 hours of uphill hike following narrow path to the base camp (5200M).
PRIVATE SERVICE: Of course this is the best option for everyone wanting to find the easy way to Chachani Mount - At 7AM the driver and the tour guide will meet you at the lobby of your hotel and start the journey altogether - The private service includes some stops along the route to enjoy more the highlands of Puno and Arequipa - The stops includes to see the nice viewpoint of Lagunillas, stop to use toilet, stop to see and walk around the rock forest of Puruña, the national reserve of Salinas And Aguada Blanca - Finally arrive to Pampas Cañahuas policy station and from there off-road trip to Chachani Mountain.
GROUP & PRIVATE SERVICE: After nice but hard climb to the base camp you will have late lunch and free time to rest or short climb to try to get more acclimatization and return to the base for diner and rest (L - D).

DAY 2: CHACHANI SUMMIT (6070M) - AREQUIPA

Today between 1AM and 2AM wake-up time and depending how the weather will be and how you feeling with altitude sickness – The tour guide or the cook will offer you a hot and energetic breakfast and then you have to verify all your climbing gear as gloves, boots, headlamp, walking poles, camera, bottle of water, wind proof gear to protect you from cold wind (-12°C or lower).
Today will be the hardest part all the way up (900 meters approx.) to conquest the summit of Chachani (6070M) – All the way up takes between 4 and 6 hours for climbers and this vary according physical conditions and level of acclimatize to altitude of each participants – 80% of climbers get summit of Chachani even if they have headache but being awarded amazing view from the top – The climbers spend around 30 minutes on the top getting spectacular views of the landscapes of Coropuna, Ampato, Hualca Hualca, Sabancaya, Misti, Ubinas, the city of Arequipa and other landscapes – This climb doesn't demand a technical rock or ice wall climbing because Chachani Mount demands just trekking in high altitude.
At mentioned time downhill hike to base camp for about 2 hours and one hour of resting and packing all the gear to get some food and then continue hiking down to find the 4WD vehicle and drive back to Arequipa (3PM) – This final journey takes around 3 hours to your hotel and end of unforgettable experience (B - L).

RAIN SEASON

November to April, some high passes are covered with snow. This tour leave every day even the rain season.

BEST TIME FOR TO CLIMB THE CHACHNI MOUNT

After rain season (April to June) the mountains are completely covered with snow and the slops are cover with new vegetation and wildlife amazing and spectacular views for photos lovers.
PORTER SERVICE will cost $75 USD per day, to carry your personal items. You will need to carry with you a daypack with your Camera, bottle of water, snacks, a fleece or something warm and a poncho in case of rain (unlikely in Dry season but as a precaution) and anything you will need before lunch as porters do not walk alongside you. Your bag will be waiting for you in your tent at campsites. Please note there are fines if you give an excess of 18 kgs so try to underpack rather than overpack. You can hire a porter from Arequipa to carry your pack over the base camp.
