MIRADOR CRUZ DEL CONDOR - TOUR TO WATCH THE ANDEAN CONDOR’S IN THE COLCA CANYON

This piece of amazing land-scape is located on the left-side of Colca canyon – El Mirador Cruz Del Condor (3700M) is considered a top tourist destination in Arequipa region thanks to good road from Arequipa (5Hrs) – The viewpoint offers great view of the canyon and fly of the impressive Andean Condor over the Colca River – The best time to see the flight of the Condor’s as known as the biggest flying bird in the world is between 8AM and 10AM all around year – Some cloudy days Is not possible to see them because is to cold, raining or they flight very far away or they flight later when the wind is warm.
Luckily in a day with normal weather condition (clear and sunny) is possible to see lot Condor’s flying very close over the head of the watchers who are waiting around the Mirador – During the highest tourist’s season between April to Octoberr easily there are around four thousand foreigners expecting to see the Condor’s and it makes very busy and is not easy to find a good location for the Condor’s.
The best and quiets time to enjoy El Mirador Cruz Del Condor is after 11AM because all tourists returns to Chivay/Arequipa/Puno and the viewpoint looks very quiet and peaceful, and this is appropriate to relax by yourself in the serenity and surrounded by mountain and lovely wind sounds.
In ancient Quechua language this place is named “Chaclla Cruz” – This is a small stone cross built by local people from the canyon and this overtop a stone promontory facing the canyon.

BUS TOUR TO MIRADOR CRUZ DEL CONDOR

Every day bus tours are running from Arequipa lead with a local tour guides – All group or private tours include few hours as maximum time to wait and see the flight of the Condor’s – Most tour companies arrive to Mirador Cruz Del Condor around 8AM and some tour guides offer nice short walk around the Mirador looking for more Condor’s.

BREAKFAST - TOILET FACILITIES AT MIRADO CRUZ DEL CONDOR

If you like to try hot drinks and avocado Sandwiches are available by local women next of the parking area.
Next to Mirador Cruz Del Condor are located toilet facilities for free but this mean to make a line up to half hour during the high tourist season from April to October.

ADMISSION FEE TO MIRADOR CRUZ DEL CONDOR

Entrance to Colca canyon as known as “Boleto Turistico” 70 soles or $25 USD per person (Obligatory) - This is unique entrance to canyon even if you don't stop at "Mirador Cruz Del Condor". The entrance is valid to visit entire canyon but not for hot spring or additional service.
For tourist from South America the admission fee is S/.40 soles ($13 USD) - For peruvian tourists and students up 12 years old the cost is S/.20 soles ($6.50 USD) - The cost for the tourist ticket can vary according the local authorities.

PUBLIC BUS SERVICE

There are many bus companies from Arequipa to Cabanaconde (6hrs) for $7 USD (S/.20 soles) - One of the first bus leave at 2AM and the latest one leave at 3PM - The bus ticket can be purchase in advance and directly at TERMINAL TERRESTRE - For the way back from Mirador Cruz Del Condor to Chivay or Arequipa is ncesary to wait the bus in Mirador Cruz Del Condor and pay directly to the driver.
From Chivay to Cruz Del Condor are local bus at 6:30AM and takes 2 hours and cost around S/.5 soles - Some days the bus leave late or they cancel the depart if they don't get enough passengers - Take care and don't miss your opportunity to visit to Mirador Del Condor.
The best option from Chivay to Mirador Cruz Del Condor is taking a PRIVATE TRANSPORT FOR $120 USD, this include driver, fuel, stops along the way and waiting time at El Mirador.
